Ellu Kuzhambu (Sesame seeds kuzhambu)


Ingredients:

Small onions – 1 cup

Tomatoes - 2 (finely cut)

Chilli powder - 2 teaspoons

Turmeric powder - ¼ teaspoon

Tamarind – lemon sized ball

Salt – 2 ½ teaspoons

Sesame oil – 1 tablespoon

To Season:

Mustard seeds – ½ teaspoon

Fenugreek seeds – ½ teaspoon

Cumin seeds – ½ teaspoon

Roast & Grind:

Ellu(sesame seeds)  -  1 tablespoon

Urad dal - 2 teaspoons

Channa dal – 1 teaspoon

Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon

Pepper – 1 teaspoon

 

Method:

  1. Heat oil, add items mentioned to season.
  2. Add small onions & fry till golden brown.
  3. Add tomatoes, chilli powder, turmeric powder & salt, sauté till tomato pieces melt & blend.
  4. Prepare tamarind extract soaking tamarind in 2 glasses of water.
  5. Add tamarind extract & allow boiling for until raw smell vanishes.
  6. Add the ground powder & allow boiling for 2 to 3 minutes.
  7. Serve hot with rice.
