Plum Rasam

Makes: 4 serves

Ingredients:

Plums – 2

Tomato – 1

Ginger – 1 inch piece

Turmeric powder - ¼ teaspoon

Hing – ¼ teaspoon

Salt – 1 ½ teaspoons (flat)

Coriander leaves – 2 teaspoons (finely chopped)

Grind to powder:

Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon

Pepper – 1 teaspoon

Red chillies - 2

Curry leaves – 10

Dal water – 2 cups

Tempering:

Ghee – 1 teaspoon

Mustard seeds – 1 teaspoon

Method:

  1. Chop the plums and the tomato finely.
  2. Add chopped plums, tomatoes, ginger, hing, turmeric powder and salt, allow boiling for 7 to 10 minutes.
  3. Add the ground powder and the dal water and allow further boiling for 7 to 10 minutes.
  4. Add tempering, garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
