Green Tomato Dal


Ingredients:

Tuar dal – 1 cup

Firm green tomatoes – 3 (finely chopped)

Salt – 1 ½ teaspoons

Turmeric powder –  ½ teaspoon

Oil – 2 teaspoons

Mustard seeds – ½ teaspoon

Cumin seeds – ½ teaspoon

Coarsely grind:

Green chillies – 2

Garlic - 2

Ginger – 1 inch piece

Curry leaves – 5

 

Method:

  1. Cook tuar dal with a drop of sesame oil & ¼ teaspoon of turmeric powder for 3 to 4 whistles in a pressure cooker.
  2. Heat oil add mustard seeds & cumin seeds, allow spluttering.
  3. Add ground mixture & sauté for a minute.
  4. Add finely chopped green tomatoes & ¼ teaspoon of turmeric powder, cook till soft.
  5. Add cooked tomatoes to the dal & allow boiling for 2 to 3 minutes.
  6. Garnish with a teaspoon of chopped coriander leaves & serve hot with rice/rotis.
