Pepper Aval


Ingredients:

Aval - 2 ½ cups (Thick ones)

Salt – 1 ¼ teaspoons

Coconut (grated) – 3 teaspoons

Grind coarsely:

Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon

Pepper – 1 teaspoon

Tempering:

Mustard seeds – ½ teaspoons

Red chilli – 1 (broken into half)

Curry leaves – 5 or 6

Yield: Serves 4

Method:

  1. Wash aval 2 to 3 times.
  2. Soak the same for 10 minutes and drain.
  3. Heat oil in a non stick deep pan, add tempering and allow spluttering.
  4. Add soaked and drained aval along with salt, mix well.
  5. Cook keeping closed for 5 to 7 mins, stirring twice or thrice sprinkling handful of water each time.
  6. Add coarsely ground powder and grated coconut, mix well.
  7. Remove from flame, pepper aval is ready to serve.
