Kothsu

(Sambar for Pongal/Idli/Dosa)

Ingredients:

Onion - 1

Tomato - 1

Curry leaves - 6

Salt - 2 teaspoons

Sambar powder - 2 teaspoons

Corriander leaves - to garnish

Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon

Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon

Fenugreek seeds - 1/2 teaspoon

Kadalai maavu (Besan) - 1&1/2 teaspoons

Special masala powder - 1 teaspoon.

Method:

  1. Heat oil in tawa, add mustard seeds & allow to splutter.
  2. Add curry leaves, fenugreek seeds & saute.
  3. Add onions and fry for a minute.
  4. Add tomatoes and salt and saute for 2 mins.
  5. Add 2 cups of water & sambar powder.
  6. Allow this to boil till raw smell vanishes.
  7. Mix besan & special masala powder in a cup of water without lumps.
  8. Pour this onto the boiling sambar.
  9. Garnish with few corriander leaves.
