Chettinad Pirattal

Makes : 4 serves

Ingredients:

Veges:

Potato – 2

Carrot – 1

Beans – 5

Fresh green peas – a handful

Turmeric powder – ¼ teaspoon

Coriander powder – 1 teaspoon

Onion – 1

Tomato – 1

Coriander leaves – 1 teaspoon

Tempering:

Oil – 2 teaspoons

Mustard seeds – ½ teaspoon

Grind coarsely Group 1:

Ginger – 1 inch piece

Garlic – 2 small or 1 big clove

Green chillies – 2

Curry leaves – 10

Grind to smooth paste Group 2:

Coconut – ½ cup (grated)

Roasted gram (pottu kadalai) – 2 teaspoons

Fennel seeds (saunf) – 1 teaspoon

Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon

Pepper – ½ teaspoon

Method:

  1. Chop the veges and boil with turmeric powder adding little water until cooked.
  2. Heat oil in a non stick kadai, add mustard seeds and allow spluttering.
  3. Add the group 1 ingredients & sauté for a minute.
  4. Add chopped onions & sauté for 2 minutes.
  5. Add chopped tomatoes, salt & sauté till oil separates.
  6. Add the boiled veges & group 2 paste.
  7. Allow boiling for 2 to 3 minutes. (Add ¼ - ½ glass of water if the contents solidify)
  8. Garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves & serve with hot rice and ghee.
