Raw Banana Poriyal

Makes: 3 to 4 servings

Ingredients:

Vazaikai (Raw Banana) – 2

Oil – 2 teaspoons

Mustard seeds – ½ teaspoon

Cumin seeds – ¼ teaspoon

Sambar powder – ½ teaspoon

Salt – 1 ½ teaspoon

Hing – ¼ teaspoon

Coconut oil – 1 teaspoon

Besan – 1 teaspoon

Curry leaves - 10

Roast & grind:

Channa dal – 1 teaspoon

Urad dal – 1 teaspoon

Corriander seeds – 2 teaspoons

Sesame seeds – 1 teaspoon

Cumin seeds – ¼ teaspoon

Red chillies – 2

Method:

  1. Cut Vazaikai into small cubes.
  2. Heat oil in a non stick kadai.
  3. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds & allow spluttering.
  4. Add hing, curry leaves & then the cut vazaikai cubes.
  5. Sprinkle a handful of water & keep closed for 3 to 5 minutes till pieces get soft (but not mashy).
  6. Add the ground powder, besan & mix well.
  7. Keep frying in low flame till it gets crisp.
  8. Add teaspoon of coconut oil & fry for one more minute.
  9. Garnish with curry leaves & serve hot with sambar/rasam with rice.
