Onion & Tomato Chutney

Makes: 2 to 3 servings

Ingredients:

Small onions - 1 small cup

Onions – 1 (roughly chopped)

Tomato – 2 (roughly chopped)

Red chillies - 3 or 4

Garlic – 1 clove (chopped)

Ginger – ½ inch piece (chopped)

Salt – ¾ teaspoon

Curry leaves - 10 leaves

Sesame oil - 2 teaspoons

Tempering:

Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon

Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon

Urad dal - ½ teaspoon

Channa dal - ½ teaspoon

Curry leaves - 5 or 6 leaves

Method:

  1. Heat oil in a flat pan, add finely chopped ginger & garlic pieces, red chillies & saute until golden brown.
  2. Add small onions, chopped onions & saute for a minute or 2 (until lightly browned).
  3. Add tomatoes, salt and cook closed (2 mins approx.), tomatoes should look melted.
  4. Allow to cool & grind to fine paste.
  5. Add tempering and serve with hot idlis, dosas, paniyaram.
