Raw banana Podimas

Makes: 3 to 4 servings

Ingredients:

Raw Banana (Vazaikai) – 1

Tempering:

Coconut oil – 2 teaspoons

Mustard seeds – 1 teaspoon

Hing – ¼ teaspoon

Turmeric powder – ¼ teaspoon

Salt - ½ teaspoon

Roast & Grind:

Coconut oil – 1 teaspoon

Urad dal – 1 tablespoon

Tuar dal – 1 tablespoon

Curry leaves – 10

Red chillies – 2

Method:

  1. Chop off the head & tail, cut raw banana into halves.
  2. With adequate water boil raw bananas till just cooked. (Approx. for 8 to 10 mins - care should be taken not to overcook them)
  3. Allow the boiled pieces to cool and grate.
  4. Roast ingredients mentioned, allow to cool & then grind to coarse powder.
  5. Heat oil, add mustard seeds & allow spluttering.
  6. Add turmeric powder & hing.
  7. Add grated raw banana & ground powder, mix well.
  8. Can have it as a dry curry as such or mixed with rice.
